I. RECIPES FOR HEALTH

SPROUTS are full of minerals & vitamins! General Instructions:

  • Soak all sprouts in spring or distilled water only.
  • The time for sprouts to reach maturity varies according to climate and environment.
  • Wash all seeds thoroughly before soaking.
ALFALFA SPROUTS
Alfalfa is valuable in minerals and vitamins A,B,C,E,H, & F. They're also high in essential amino-acids.

1st day - soak the seeds 3-5 hours. After soaking period, rinse and drain
2nd day - rinse
3rd day - rinse
4th day - rinse
5th day - remove sprouts from jar and wash in sink, skimming off hulls. Place sprouts in window to receive sunlight to become rich in chlyrophyll.

Rinsing is to be done 2 times a day -early in the morning and later in the afternoon. To rinse, stand the jar upright. Let the water fill the jar, and let it over flow so that the excreta will come out. You will see a ring of foam rising to the top.(the excreta) Turn the jar upside-down, but keep tilted, and drain. Gently turn the jar so that the bad seeds will stick to the top and won't mix with the sprouts. Maturity usually reaches in 6-7 days, but differs in hot weather.

II. ORIENTAL PHILOSOPHY

TERMS

Tao - "The way", Tao manifests in life through the Five Elements and the Yin/Yang principle. Five elements are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, & Wood.

Yin/Yang- opposite and complimentary forces two basic poles, Oriental traditions says: yang outside / yin inside.

Yin - passive, cool, (-), female

Yang - active, warm, (+), male

They are a symbol of change, Balance is the key to the Tao.

Chi - Vital life force, the vibration of energy created from the yin/yang interaction & balance of the five elements.

Meridians- organized system of channels through which chi flows.

Acu-points(Tsubo) - where chi comes to the surface of the body.

Shiatsu/accupressure - shi means finger, atsu means pressure.

G-Jo - accupressure first aid.

MASSAGE AND PAIN FROM INJURIES

Massage can prevent and relieve compensatory muscular spasm and compensatory posture problems as well as muscle splinting of the initial injury.

Pain goes to secondary muscle spasm which inhibits blood circulation, leading to ischemia and waste product build-up. Massage breaks the Pain Cycle.

ICE AND HEAT FOR ACUTE INJURY

After an acute injury, applying ice to an injured area for the first 48 hours is a good rule of thumb. You can ice for 10 minutes each 2-3 hours, and if inflammation is present, consult your Dr. about an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen. After 48 hours, you can alternate the ice treatment with heat; ending with ice. A handkerchief or cloth placed in between the ice or heat and your skin is recommended. If using a heat pad, be careful not to fall asleep. Each individual responds to ice and heat differently, try each and see what suits you best.
